Hazel Grove MP Lisa Smart has been taken out for a walk along the GM ringway by some of the volunteers who maintain the 200 mile long walking route around Greater Manchester.

Lisa met with Richard Hawksworth, chair of the GM Ringway Association, coordinator Roz Hughes and two of the volunteer “stage guardians” for stage 6 (Strines to Marple) – Rebecca (and her cockerpoo Ellie) and Christine.

Lisa Smart, the Liberal Democrat MP for Hazel Grove constituency, said: “It’s a wonderful way to spend the morning, and spending time out walking this route is good for your mental health as well as your physical health, and I would encourage anyone to get out and explore this wonderful section of our countryside.

“Having just seen the Wharf in Marple get a massive boost from the Heritage Fund, this is another project for our area which is supported in the same way.

“The Heritage Fund doesn’t just support physical projects, it supports anything which brings people together to celebrate our heritage, and I would encourage any organisation that thinks it may qualify to get in touch with them – they have been incredibly constructive and positive with us.”
