Protect Our Community Park at Tangshutt Fields
Back the petition
We, the community of Cherry Tree, Romiley and surrounding areas, strongly oppose the proposed relocation of the children’s park and multi-use games area, at Tangshutt Fields as part of the Hyde Bank Meadows development.
This park, located near Gotherage Lane and the Cherry Tree estate, is a well-loved community space used daily by families, children, and local residents. The playground and surrounding area were supported and improved through community fundraising and have become an important part of neighbourhood life.
The current proposal would relocate the park behind a new access road and further away from the surrounding homes. This raises several serious concerns:
- Safety: The current park is visible from nearby houses, allowing natural supervision by residents. Moving it behind an access road and out of sight reduces this passive safety and makes the space feel less secure for children and families.
- Community investment: Local residents helped fundraise and support improvements to the existing park. Relocating it disregards the community’s efforts and attachment to the current location.
- Accessibility: The existing park is easily accessible to families living nearby. Moving it behind a road and further from homes makes it harder and less safe for children to reach independently.
- Loss of community character: Tangshutt Fields has long served as an open, visible recreational space that brings the community together.
We request that the children’s park remain in its current location within Tangshutt Fields, where it is safe, visible, and valued by the community.
We ask Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council and the developers to work with local residents to protect this important community space.

Protect Our Community Park at Tangshutt Fields
I support keeping the children’s park at Tangshutt Fields in its current safe, visible and accessible location rather than relocating it under the Hyde Bank Meadows development, in order to protect safety, accessibility and community value.
