MP Lisa Smart is pushing Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) for information on how the proposed Metrolink line to Stockport will benefit residents across the wider area.

With different options on the table for the route, the business case being developed for each one will have a major impact on how the line can then enable further public transport links across the area and towards Hazel Grove or Marple. The MP has written to TfGM to get more details on whether a preferred route is clear from the work they are doing.

Lisa Smart, the MP for Hazel Grove constituency, said: “Getting the Metrolink to Stockport is a major achievement in itself, but it also needs to be a platform for much better connectivity.

“With people increasingly frustrated by traffic coming to a standstill, we need to be delivering routes so they have better alternatives; so that people who want to choose public transport can, and those who need to drive are still free to.

The MP is looking at options to enable connections from the current train lines, which run across the constituency towards Manchester, with the new tram line.

MP Lisa Smart added: “Residents need to know that there are clear plans in place to end their traffic misery. That means giving them reliable options for public transport, so that all the stress isn’t on the road network.”
