MP Lisa Smart has been resoundingly reselected for the Liberal Democrats at the next general election.

The MP was elected with a majority of 6,500 in 2024, and in her first 20 months has asked nearly twice as written questions as her predecessor did in 9 years (508–260); signed five times as many early day motions (195–43); and is closing in fast on his spoken contributions (204–296). With her office team she has also cleared over 16,000 cases from local residents.

The Liberal Democrat MP for Hazel Grove constituency said: “This was a great vote of confidence from the local team in the work that we have been doing. I’m really proud of the record of action that we have delivered – funding wins for better access on train stations, getting local guidance changed on speed cameras, exposing the failures of the Government’s ‘golden hello’ scheme for dentists, and keeping the overnight fire crews at Offerton fire station, to name just a few.

“We’ve also made a real impact with our national campaigning, forcing u-turns by the Government on winter fuel payments, inheritance tax for farmers, digital ID cards, and the suspension of local elections.”

Local party chair Dan Oliver added: “MPs who really care about their community, and are prepared to put the effort in, make such a difference.

“As a local councillor, I have lost track of the number of times that Lisa has brought up issues that people in my ward have raised. Having someone on our side at the national level, and fighting for local people, makes a massive difference.”
