After meeting with Age UK to hear about their corridor care campaign, local MP Lisa Smart has called again for the Government to address the critical problems which are resulting in hundreds of people waiting in corridors for treatment in Stepping Hill.

Locally, a shocking 10,610 patients had trolley waits of at least 12 hours in Stockport A&E last year, reflected in the online response when she posted about her meeting with Age UK.

Lisa Smart, the Liberal Democrat MP for Hazel Grove constituency, said: “Any time we post about conditions in hospital, and from the health care survey I ran across the constituency last year, you see how much this affects people.

“People have been sharing photos of their relatives in queues of beds in corridors, and telling me the stories of what has happened to them personally.”

The Liberal Democrats launched a national campaign to tackle corridor care this month, committing to the critical funding that is needed to ensure there are both the beds and staff to cope.

MP Lisa Smart added: “Staff are working incredibly hard in poor conditions – not least because of the lack of funding for the £138 million backlog of repairs that I am demanding the Government address.

“This is simply going to continue until the Government address thew whole issue – funding social care so that people ready to leave hospital can do, and so that people don’t get to the point where they are forced to come to hospital, and committing to repairing Stepping Hill Hospital and repairing and rebuilding other hospitals across the country.”
