The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Kent Fire and Rescue advice for a safe Christmas and New Year

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is urging all residents to stay safe this Christmas and ensure that the celebration doesn't end in tragedy. Latest figures from the Fire Kills campaign show a rise in the number of accidental fire deaths and injuries over the festive period. In 2008 there were 33,000 accidental house fires, 10% of which occurred in the run up to Christmas Day.

Don't Pay for Benefits Advice

Kent Trading Standards have received reports concerning a company offering free benefits advice. Although the advice is free there is a cost to this service. If consumers contact the company then they will visit the consumer in their home and fill out forms on their behalf, with regards to any benefits they may be entitled to.

South East MEP Sharon Bowles Calls for Eurostar Overhaul

Lib Dem MEP Sharon Bowles has called for an overhaul of Eurostar following weekend failures of its service which left thousands of passengers trapped in the Channel Tunnel and up to 60,000 people stranded. Sharon Bowles said: "Having seen the distress of people who were trapped in the Channel Tunnel over the weekend, some for up to seven hours, it is imperative that Eurostar gets its act together."
