A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Residents Helped to Save Energy and Cut Costs thanks to Liberal Democrat 'Energy Monitor' Library Loans Initiative

Local residents are now able to borrow 'energy monitors' for free from the library to help them save energy and cut household bills, thanks to a Liberal Democrat initiative launched by Mayor Dave Hodgson. The idea was proposed by Dave Hodgson at a meeting of the Borough Council's Sustainability Committee before his election as Mayor. He launched the scheme at Bedford Central Library in October, and early indications are that the scheme is proving popular.

Bearder disappointment at Copenhagen Comedown

Euro MP for the South East, Catherine Bearder, has expressed her huge disappointment at the UN Conference on Climate Change in Copenhagen. After two weeks of negotiations world leaders failed to come to an agreement on the best way to tackle climate change. Limited progress was made on the most important issues and once again we are asking, what needs to happen before governments will act to tackle the climate crisis?
