A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Horton Water Tower

Horton Water Tower

The papers for the Planning Committee meeting on 10 December include a recommendation to refuse the Planning Application for Horton Water Tower. The reasons given are the effect on adjacent dwellings and the effect on the appearance of the existing tower. The actual decision to refuse or to permit will be taken in public on Thursday by the councillors on the Planning Committee.

Christmas Lights

Christmas Lights have now gone up in Epsom's High Street. They are generally similar to those displayed last year. However the familiarity of the scene masks the efforts that have gone on so that shoppers in Epsom can enjoy the spectacle.

Epsom Station

There was a good turn-out at the Public Meeting on Monday 30th November organised by Epsom's Lib Dems. Local residents were given an opportunity to exchange views on the redevelopment proposals for Epsom Station. The planning application still hasn't been registered by Epsom & Ewell Borough Council, who are understood to be calling for clearer drawings to be supplied.

Does sharing a Chief Executive give us value for money?

Value for money?

A report into the benefits of sharing a Chief Executive with Essex County Council failed to fully explain what benefit this brings to Brentwood residents.

Talking Rubbish ?

On Monday I attended the Finchley and Golders Green Area Environment Sub Committee. My Colleague Cllr Monroe Palmer was unable to attend so I was there as his substitute. The meeting started at 7pm and was all over at 7.25pm. This committee is a bit like the Area Forum except it has the powers to make decisions. But nothing new in that the vice chairman did not turn up. Is there also a special allowance for the post of vice chairman?
