Lib Dems choose candidates for the Earcroft by-election
Darwen Liberal Democrats have chosen their two candidates to contest the by election in the earcroft Ward on July 15. The 2 candidates are John East and Anthony (Tony) Melia.
The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Commenting on the selection by the Conservatives of Chris Heaton-Harris MEP, Stuart Bray the Lib Dem Agent for Leicester South said:
Lib Dem local campaigner Cllr Parmjit Gill today visited Eyres Monsell Community Centre with Shadow Cabinet Minister for Work and Pensions Steve Webb MP and local councillor Mark Farmer. The Lib Dem team met with local pensioners at the community centre for lunch to discuss community matters. Top concerns for local residents are the closure of local Post Offices and the Labour candidate's record of closing homes for the elderly in Leicester.
Residents are outraged at the news that a further eighteen post offices in Leicestershire are set to close - with the axe hanging over a further six. The latest savage cuts under the Labour Government's closure programme will hit local communities hard.
Following a disastrous set of European election results, the Conservatives have already been written off in the Leicester South by-;election by the press.
Many students at Leicester's universities look set to miss out on voting against Labour's top up fees as a result of the timing of the Leicester South by-election.
