Save our green belt
The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? A plan to replace Leicester's area committees with community meetings has been given the go-ahead by the Labour run council.

Farron attends 'Gang culture' conference
Local MP Tim Farron, who is a spokesman for the Liberal Democrats on Home Affairs, attended a packed conference organised by the Brathay Hall Trust on gang culture in the UK. The conference sought to assess what is and isn't working in the effort to curb violent crime in Britain.

"Fare's Fair!" Farron calls for a better deal for South Lakeland tax-payers and bus-users
Local MP Tim Farron has called for fair fares in South Lakeland. Government policy means that South Lakeland tax-payers are forced to subsidise visitors using bus services, but don't get the same free transport access that is available to other areas.

Farron quizzes Treasury on Kendal HMRC office
Local MP Tim Farron has today tabled a parliamentary question to the Chancellor of the Exchequer that it is hoped will help clarify the future of the HMRC office in Kendal. It has become clear that other areas are seeing a 'rationalisation' in HMRC offices, meaning that smaller offices are being amalgamated into bigger, regional offices. The office in Kendal is staffed by around 40 people, and those people could face having to move to Carlisle or Preston or lose their job completely.

Councillor Hobhouse acknowledges 100 years of female councillors
Councillor Wera Hobhouse is calling for more women to get involved in politics. Councillor Hobhouse was speaking on the 100th anniversary of the election of female councillors - women councillors were first elected in this country at the elections in early November 1907, following the Qualification of Women Act. They started taking office at the first meetings of the new councils, 100 years ago this week. It took another 21 years before women got the same voting rights as men, in 1928.
