Shepway Council have confirmed that they will consider the planning applications for Lydd Airport at a Special Meeting of the Council to be held on Wednesday 30th January. The Council has made the decision to proceed having received additional information it has asked for over plans to expand London Ashford (Lydd) Airport.

A meeting of the Borough Council's Environment Committee on 31st October agreed, in principle, to begin fortnightly collections of all recyclable materials and residual waste from spring 2009, but only after a Borough-wide consultation has taken place. Last nights meeting of Shepway District Council exploded in controversy with several Councillors from both the Lib Dems and the Conservatives walking out. The meeting was debating a Liberal Democrat motion aimed at fighting proposed cuts to fire fighters and fire engines a Folkestone Fire Station. The cuts will cut the number of the fully manned fire engines from 3 to 1 and the loss of 24 firefighters in Folkestone.
