The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Shepway Announce Lydd Airport Planning Application Meeting Date

Shepway Council have confirmed that they will consider the planning applications for Lydd Airport at a Special Meeting of the Council to be held on Wednesday 30th January. The Council has made the decision to proceed having received additional information it has asked for over plans to expand London Ashford (Lydd) Airport.

Epsom & Ewell proposes Fortnightly Rubbish Collections (but it's not bad news!)

A meeting of the Borough Council's Environment Committee on 31st October agreed, in principle, to begin fortnightly collections of all recyclable materials and residual waste from spring 2009, but only after a Borough-wide consultation has taken place. The proposals will be further discussed at a meeting of the whole council in December.

Council Meeting Explodes as Tory Amendment Delays Action Against Folkestone Fire Cuts

Last nights meeting of Shepway District Council exploded in controversy with several Councillors from both the Lib Dems and the Conservatives walking out. The meeting was debating a Liberal Democrat motion aimed at fighting proposed cuts to fire fighters and fire engines a Folkestone Fire Station. The cuts will cut the number of the fully manned fire engines from 3 to 1 and the loss of 24 firefighters in Folkestone.
