Save our green belt
The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Bedford Borough Lib Dems have launched their imaginative proposals for revitalising Bedford's Town Centre. Councillor Rosemary Bootiman said "We have put forward our ideas and we now want to know what other people think."

Lib Dems call for safer stations
Bedford Lib Dems are campaigning to make Bedford's stations safer. The Government has admitted that our stations haven't yet been included in a crime prevention scheme. Only 110 out of 2,500 UK stations have been accredited under the Secure Stations scheme. The standard covers staff training, Help Points, CCTV, Lighting and information. Lib Dem Councillor Judith Cunningham said "The Government must stop dragging its feet on secure stations. We want to see Bedford's stations reach the standard for the benefit of all rail users."
