The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

At his first Prime Ministers Questions he challenged the PM over UK emissions, calling attention to apparent confusion in Whitehall over the Government's ability to meet emissions targets.

Rochdale MP Paul Rowen has been joined by Liberal Democrat Colleagues including fellow Greater Manchester MPs Mark Hunter (Cheadle) and John Leech (Manchester Withington) in the fight to save local BBC community radio programmes in Greater Manchester, including "Gaytalk" - currently the BBC's only regular lesbian, gay & bisexual community programme.

Cheriton Poll to be amongst Last to Close at 9pm

The Cheriton by-election on 23 March will be amongst the last ever held under current local election polling hours (8am-9pm). Parliament has voted to extend local election polling hours to be the same as those for general elections - 7am to 10pm.
