The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

World Cup fever hits the Kashmir Youth Project

Kashmir Youth Project (KYP) opened their doors to the community in Rochdale for the World Cup Final screening on Sunday 9th July. Mohammed Asad, the Project Manager for Sports For All, came up with the initiative. He explains "We approached Mr Fulat, (Manager at KYP) regarding inviting communities of all faiths and background to KYP, to watch the Final on a large screen. He said yes immediately. However, since then Julie Durrant of Sport Development, together with Deen 4 All Ltd and the Rev'd James Read joined us and we were able to put together an enjoyable evening for everyone."

Life expectancy figures a cause for concern!

Rochdale's Environment supremo demands investigation!

Cllr. Wera Hobhouse, Rochdale Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability has demanded an investigation after the River Spodden was polluted over the weekend. The Environment Agency are currently investigating the cause of the pollution. An Ecologist is expected today and the source is not known and all the drains are being checked.
