A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Another Highways disaster from the Conservatives

"A year ago, the County Council was working on a 'road safety' scheme for the Epping New Road from the City Limits roundabout to the Warren Wood pub. Only Loughton County Councillors were consulted about the proposals," says Buckhurst Hill Councillor Ann Haigh.

"Iraq War - Never Again!". Says Stephen Robinson

West Chelmsford Lib Dem Candidate Stephen Robinson welcomes the Lib Dem stand against the Iraq War. He said, "We have chosen not to make an early issue of this because we stand for many more policies than just the anti-Iraq war sentiment, but, like many people in Britain, we are outraged at being railroaded into war by Tony Blair."

Tories In Radio No Show

Voters in North Wiltshire were treated to a lively debate on BBC Radio Wiltshire on Monday morning. However, despite the invitation being open to all candidates in North Wiltshire the Tory candidate, James Gray, did not attend the event. As such the Tories were unable to put out the negative message they have been attempting to convey and heard from the only real candidate for North Wiltshire, Paul Fox.

Liberal Democrats put Iraq back on political agenda

Liberal Democrat Leader Charles Kennedy, with Sir Menzies Campbell and Shirley Williams, have today called for a full public inquiry into the way the Prime Minister took the country to war, along the lines of the Franks Inquiry after the Falklands War. This should be an inquiry that examines the full political, legal and strategic advice given to the Ministers before the war, and the decisions taken on the basis of that advice.
