Following the Government announcement on the future of Post Office Limited, Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Friday 29th December) gave their support to calls by Liberal Democrat Work and Pensions Spokesperson, Danny Alexander MP for the successor to the Post Office Card Account (POCA) to be made freely available to all citizens.
An appeal to the Planning Inspectorate in Bristol against erecting phone masts on Hurst Hill has been lost. Permission has been granted for a new O2 telecommunications mast near to the Gate Hangs Well public house. This is despite Wolverhampton Council turning down the original application following a Lib Dem petition and Lib Dem Councillors objections to the planning inspectorate. The inspectors ignored any health ground objections because the Government has directed that these must not be taken into account. They also rejected objections on the grounds of visual amenity and highway grounds. Thus the appeal was allowed. A second company has now applied for a very similar mast on the same location and subsequent to the first being allowed it is now fairly certain that this also will be granted. This is sad news for the residents of Hurst Road and adjacent streets.

Long-term use of some of the most common drugs prescribed to tackle stomach acid problems may be weakening people's bones. Researchers found a significantly increased risk of hip fracture among UK patients taking 'proton pump inhibitors' for more than a year. They said doctors should consider the risk when prescribing such drugs. The University of Pennsylvania study findings appear in the Journal of the American Association.
