Dundee LibDems welcome national transport strategy
Dundee Liberal Democrats have today (Wednesday 6th December) welcomed the launch of Scotland's National Transport Strategy by LibDem Transport Minister Tavish Scott MSP.
The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. The Liberal Democrats have released a dossier showing that the Tories may have started to talk green, but are continuing to act dirty. Commenting, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said "The Tories have been woefully irresponsible - they talk green but act dirty. David Cameron drives a car that emits more carbon than all 10 of the best-selling cars in Britain. It appears that the real Tory motto is do what we say, not what we do. "The Tories are a shambles on green taxes. George Osborne says he favours green taxes, but the special commission he set up to look at taxes did not come up with a single plan for green taxation. This proves that the Tories are all mouth and no trousers on the environment. The voters are waking up to the fact that the Tories have no proposals for tackling climate change, merely hot air and claptrap."
Dundee Liberal Democrats have today (Wednesday 6th December) agreed with a new report that shows local businesses suffer from post office closures.
Commenting on the decision by British Gas to stop back charging their token prepayment users when prices rise, Paul Holmes, Liberal Democrat MP for Chesterfield said: "Fuel poverty is a serious danger to the health and wellbeing of vulnerable households and back charging has significantly contributed towards the hardship of low income households.

The Government has been challenged in Parliament to come out in support of a ban on cluster munitions. Liberal Democrat Shadow Foreign Secretary, Michael Moore MP also accused ministers of adopting a 'disingenuous' stance on cluster munitions to avoid criticism for failing to call for an international ban on the weapons.
