A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Easier pricing for mobile calls and plane tickets

The cost of holidays will be clearer and overseas mobile phone calls cheaper thanks to action by Chelmsford's Lib Dem Euro MP Andrew Duff and his colleagues. Many airlines continue to advertise misleading prices that don't reflect the final cost of plane tickets and MEPs have voted to ban this. Furthermore, mobile phone companies have to cut the amount they charge for making and receiving calls by 70%.

Lib Dems troubled over treatment of citizens as Tories court China

The Essex partnership with Jiangsu Province in China must be accompanied by a robust expectation of improved human rights for the Chinese people in the province. That was the call from Liberal Democrat Mike Mackrory, in response to the proposal from the ruling Conservatives at Essex County Council.
