A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Chelmsford Conservatives press on with plans to Choke Chelmsford

The local, Conservative-run council has confirmed its plans for 4,000 houses on green fields north of Chelmsford, in the face of determined opposition from hundreds of local residents and the Liberal Democrats. At a meeting on 24 September, the council rejected a last ditch bid by the Lib Dems to delete from the plan the sites north of Copperfield Road and Essex Avenue. The proposal was made from the gallery by Lib Dem campaigner Stephen Robinson and backed by Lib Dem councillors.

DELGA had a great week in Bournemouth for Lib Dem Conference. Our colourful stall in the exhibition - with a display of photos from what has been our biggest ever Pride campaign - was bustling each day, and our fringe meetings and social each drew excellent crowds.

"Let today mark the beginning of real change in Britain" says Nick Clegg

In his speech to the 2009 Liberal Democrat Conference yesterday, Nick Clegg called for real change in Britain, and set out why the Liberal Democrats are the only party who can achieve it. Clegg, who will be in Bedford on 6th October for a public meeting chaired by Mayoral Candidate Dave Hodgson, encouraged people who share the Lib Dems' belief that real change is needed to 'go with their instincts' and vote Liberal Democrat.
