Fire Service Reform Confused
Commenting on the House of Commons Communities and Local Government Committee report into the Fire and Rescue Service released today, Paul Holmes, MP for Chesterfield, said:
The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Dundee City Council's Liberal Democrat Finance Convener today (Tuesday 11th July) hailed the 3.6% increase in the City Council's in-year Council Tax collection as a 'vastly improved' situation.
It emerged at the weekend that the Government is planning a scaled-down version of the project so that it can meet a 2008 deadline. The plans emerged in a series of emails between officials working on the project, leaked to the Sunday Times, which warn that the interim version may not be "even remotely feasible".
