The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

DELGA has welcomed tomorrow's National Union of Students national campaign day on the ban on blood donation by gay and bisexual men, and their female partners. The campaign, "Donation not Discrimination", involves a nationwide wave of awareness stalls, petition-signing, but also encouraging those who are allowed to donate under the current rules to do so.

Dover lorry park plan "facing hurdles"

Plans for a lorry park "buffer" zone to ease the problems caused by lorry parking and Operation Stack from the Port of Dover have come up against "considerable hurdles" according to Dover Harbour Board's Chief Executive.

De Menezes Police man shoots man dead in New Romney

A man has been shot dead by police during a Flying Squad operation to prevent a suspected armed robbery attempt in New Romney. The policeman involved in the shooting has since been named as one of the two officers who shot Charles De Menezes last year at Stockwell Tube Station.
