The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Liberal Democrats have responded to the news that the Better Bedford Party group on the Borough Council, comprising just two Councillors, is disbanding. Councillors Margaret Davey and Peter Chiswell are joining the Independent group in what appears to be a recognition of the party's diminishing strength across the Borough.
Speaking on the International Day Against Homophobia, Liberal Democrat Leader Menzies Campbell warned that thousands of lives are still being ruined by homophobia. The Liberal Democrats are today holding a Parliamentary Reception as part of their campaign to tackle homophobic bullying in schools.
The Government has today been accused of failing to meet the needs of post office users as it announced it was going ahead with a massive closure programme.
