A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Sophie calls for a rethink in Europe

The European Parliament's Intergroup on Gay and Lesbian Rights is seeking an amendment to a statement from the European Parliament Bureau on diversity, after it was revealed that sexual orientation was removed from a bureau resolution. The document details anti-discrimination principles within the workplace of the European Parliament which covered non-party-political employment - broadly equivalent to the Civil Service in the UK. It states that employees should not be discriminated against based on sex, disability race, colour or ethnicity.

Blair's evidence on Iraq should be published

In response to a parliamentary question tabled by Michael Moore, Margaret Beckett refused to publish the transcript, instead referring enquiries to the press statement issued by the Prime Minister's Official Spokesman.
