Letter to editor of Shropshire Star
Dear Sir,
The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.
Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Last week we discussed the Human Embryo and Fertilisation Bill, a very controversial bill on which MPs had a free vote. I had been very heavily lobbied on the topic from both sides, but as a member of the All Party Pro-Life Group I supported amendments put forward by my very good colleagues Jim Dobbin, John Pugh and Ann Widdecombe.
The Regulatory Committee at Rochdale Council has turned down the decision to build a small wind farm at Crook Hill.
A petition against a planned incinerator organised by the Liberal Democrats has received a massive response.
There's good news for the 160 people on waiting lists for allotments in that the Council can go ahead and create new plots for use next year.
