The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Antony Wood continues his campaign against Post Office closures

Last week Antony Wood, the Lib Dem Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, campaigned in Windsor Town to try and prevent the proposed closure of the St Leonards Road and Dedworth Road Post Offices. At a Council meeting on Tuesday he continued this opposition by seconding a motion from Cllr Jeremy Hyde (Liberal Democrat) calling for these closures to be stopped.

Increases in South Hams car parking charges - highest in Devon!

Figures released recently by Transport Minister, Tony McNulty, show that car parking income in the South Hams has increased by a massive 83% since 1997, the highest increase in Devon. This compares with increases of only 22% in Mid Devon and 28% in Torbay. Commenting on these figures Totnes Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, Mike Treleaven said:

Statement from Shepway Liberal Democrat Council Group

At last nights group meeting of the Shepway Liberal Democrats, Cllr Linda Cufley resigned as the leader of the group. Members of the group have the greatest respect for Linda, and for all the work she has done over the last 21 years for both this district and her colleagues. As Linda explained to the group last night, the reason for her resignation was to enable the group to move forward as a whole.
