A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

'Axe the Tax' campaign launched in Totnes

Totnes PPC, Mike Treleaven joined with Lib Dem group leader on South Hams District Council, Cathie Pannell, District Councillors, Anne Ward and Marilyn Roadknight and Torbay Councillor Chris Lomas to launch our 'Axe the Tax' campaign in Totnes last Saturday. Nearly 200 people signed our petition in under 2 hours as we gave out information leaflets and talked to the Saturday shopping crowds. This is just the start as we will be taking the campaign to all the towns in the constituency in the coming weeks starting with Brixham next Saturday morning ( Oct. 25th.) Mike Treleaven to take part in launch of Devon Rural Network.

Totnes Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson, Mike Treleaven, will be attending the Devon Rural Network Conference at Two Bridges Hotel, Dartmoor on Tuesday October 21st. Devon Rural Network is being set up as a result of the Devon Rural Strategy produced in July 2003. The aim is to gather together an alliance of organisations from all sectors who are involved with the many aspects of rural life in Devon. This group will then work as part of the Rural Strategy to research, support and co-ordinate the various projects being developed, not only to build on Devon's strengths, but to help with the problems problem areas identified in the strategy.
