The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

In early July Nick Clegg gave a major speech to the Local Government Association on giving power to people and communities. Local decision making is a core value for Liberal Democrats and something that differentiates us from the Conservatives and Labour.

arron launches huge offensive to stop ward closures

Local MP Tim Farron is issuing a call to arms in the fight to stop the hospital trust from closing medical emergency wards at Westmorland General Hospital. Mr Farron is writing to the thousands of people in his constituency who have signed petitions against the closures and urging them to write to members of the Overview and Scrutiny Committee, who have the power to refer the closure plans to the Independent NHS Reconfiguration Panel. More than 28,000 people signed the petition.
