A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Newbridge Gdns resurfaced

Newbridge Crescent resurfaced at last

Cllr Robin Lawrence is delighted with the resurfacing of Newbridge Gardens. Last Summer he told the Council that there had been no maintenance for at least twenty years and urgent repairs were needed. The worst pot holes were then filled up but Robin called for a full resurfacing to be done. He continued to press the Transport Network Team to ensure that Newbridge Crescent was included in the resurfacing programme.

Protein mutations link to autism

Scientists have discovered how mutations in two key proteins may lead to autism. They have shown one protein increases the excitability of nerve cells, while the other inhibits cell activity. The University of Texas team found that in normal circumstances the proteins balance each other out. But the study, published in Neuron, suggests that in people with autism the balance between the proteins is knocked out of kilter.
