A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Liberal Democrat Councillor condemns violence in the Middle East

Local Liberal Democrat Councillor, Karimeh Foster, has written to the Foreign Secretary condemning the violence in the Middle East and calling for greater action on the part of this country. Cllr. Foster said, " I wrote this letter before the violence in Lebanon erupted, but it is even more important now that the UK government calls for an immediate cease fire. Hundreds of civilians are being killed because the Israeli government has over-reacted. The Israelis have asked people from Southern Lebanon to leave, but then they bomb and fire at them as they leave, destroy the roads and bridges so they cannot leave and have attacked 3 hospitals so that that even the injured are not safe. Many civilians lie dead under the collapsed apartment blocks"
