Look out for the firework 'Good Guys' - that's the advice Rochdale Council consumer watchdogs are giving to people planning parties for bonfire night. Retailers throughout the borough have joined the Good Guy's scheme and agreed to support a code of conduct that will restrict firework nuisance in the weeks leading up to bonfire night and encourage people to use fireworks safely.

Michael Meadowcroft , the former Liberal MP for Leeds West, has this week joined the Liberal Democrats. In 1988 Michael did not join the Liberal Democrats but remained with the continuing Liberal Party. Michael said "the political situation now is very different to what it was 20 years ago when I and a number of colleagues felt unable to commit ourselves to the new merged party."
