A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Stay safe with the firework good guys

Look out for the firework 'Good Guys' - that's the advice Rochdale Council consumer watchdogs are giving to people planning parties for bonfire night. Retailers throughout the borough have joined the Good Guy's scheme and agreed to support a code of conduct that will restrict firework nuisance in the weeks leading up to bonfire night and encourage people to use fireworks safely.

A chance to reunite the Liberal family

Michael Meadowcroft , the former Liberal MP for Leeds West, has this week joined the Liberal Democrats. In 1988 Michael did not join the Liberal Democrats but remained with the continuing Liberal Party. Michael said "the political situation now is very different to what it was 20 years ago when I and a number of colleagues felt unable to commit ourselves to the new merged party." He went on to cite three main reason he felt need attention - the continued occupation of Iraq, ID Cards and the serious threat from xenophobes and conservatives of Right and Left who believe that somehow the British Isles can be floated off into the Atlantic.
