The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Local campaigners from national democracy campaign group Charter88 have thanked local MP Paul Rowen for signing an Early Day Motion calling for a law that would require parliament's approval for the use of the country's armed forces, by making the Government obtain Parliament's authority to go to war.

A survey from NatWest has shown that 49% of this year's first year students admit that they would have been less likely to start university in 2006 because of top-up fees coming info effect. With students across Shepway awaiting A Level results, the Liberal Democrats are worried that many local young people could choose not to go onto further education due to the cost of top-up fees.

Dundee Liberal Democrats have launched a campaign to make dog owners clean up after their dogs. This follows complaints about this issue from constituents of Councillor Helen Dick (Strathmartine Ward) and Cllr Fraser Macpherson (Tay Bridges Ward) in Dundee.
