A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Survey of Green Spaces in Stamford

Cllr Jane Peckett, LibDem (St. Mary's), together with Cllr Paul Rose (Independent, St. Mary's) has recently undertaken a review of parks, recreation/play facilities and open spaces for Stamford as part of a national survey which will feed back to South Kesteven District Council. She hopes it will highlight the poor level of facilities for youth in Stamford. Cllr Peckett is also Chairman of the Action for Stamford Sports & Leisure Group which has undertaken a comprehensive examination of the sports and leisure facilities in Stamford in the hope of getting some improvement in these.

Living Archive for Stamford

Cllr Maureen Jalili, LibDem Mayor of Stamford is currently working on a 'Living Archive for Stamford'. This will consist of recordings of local people, of all ages, recording their memories and impressions of Stamford so that these can be captured as 'moments in time' and used to supplement the variety of tools and materials available to visitors to the Town Hall. She is particularly anxious to include schoolchildren of all ages to take part in this initiative so that, in years to come, youngsters will be able to take part. Please contact Cllr Jalili on maj@uk2.net or by telephone (01780 755955)
