A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Administration of the Immigration and Nationality Directorate called into question!

Rochdale MP - Paul Rowen has called on the Immigration and Nationality Directorate to investigate a number of problems with their administration which is leaving estranged partners vulnerable. In cases where a marriage breaks down, an ex-spouse may take the decision not to support her partner's application for right to remain in this country. This is a big step, and often causes disputes within a family. However, when a visa expires and the estranged partner fails to return to their own country, problems can escalate and the British citizen can find themselves being bullied, harassed and threatened.

UK and US must back immediate Middle East ceasefire say Liberal Democrats

The Liberal Democrats have re-iterated their calls for a ceasefire in the Middle East. Israel has continued carrying out air strikes in southern Lebanon after previously promising a 48 hour halt to attacks. Palestinian doctors in Gaza say several people have been hurt in fresh Israeli air strikes there, that took place as Israel's Lebanon offensive continues. Israel says it attacked buildings used by militants from Hamas and the Popular Resistance Committees in Gaza City and the northern town of Beit Hanoun.

Update: They STILL don't care!

In late June, the Lib Dem Team reported a spot check on a Folkestone Town Centre car park which confirmed the decline in Folkestone - and over one month on, the SAME problems - and in many places the SAME LITTER - are still there!
