A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

This is one the highest ever ratings for the Liberal Democrats and with still a week to go before the Election bodes well for the Liberal Democrats to make gains across Wolverhampton - particularly in Heathtown, Oxley, Park and St. Peters wards from Labour and Tettenhall Regis ward from the Conservatives.

Crime Prevention is a Central Theme in the Liberal Democrats Local Election Campaign.

Liberal Democrat Leader, Sir Menzies Campbell, has highlighted the Party's crime initiative. He dropped in on Liberal Democrat-controlled Sutton to meet police officers and council staff who work together at the town's police station to provide neighbourhood wardens, drug and alcohol abuse services, wardens, truancy liaison officers and domestic violence services. "Preventing crime is very much a liberal issue," he said, during the visit.

Lib Dems hit 24% in latest opinion poll.

Scarborough and Whitby Lib Dems have welcomed the party's new high opinion poll rating: 24%, according to a Guardian/ICM poll. The poll shows the Tories support flatlining in the low 30's with 'Dave' Cameron's largely uncritical press coverage making no difference to Tory fortunes, and the Labour party hitting a new low in public esteem.
