A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

The Liberal Democrats had one of their most successful Pride Parade's as thirty or so activists, Councillors, Prospective Parliamentary Candidates and European Parliament Candidates marched on a warm bright day through the crowded streets of London. The Lib Dems received massive ovations from the crowds as we were The First of the Political parties in the parade , spurred on by 80s Pop music blasting out from our UK flagged Mini, driven by Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Dave Raval, meant that the crowd joined in the festivities as our activists handed out flyers and sweets along the route.

The end of a pernicious myth

An independent survey of social housing allocation explodes the myth that new immigrants jump the queue for social housing. The research, commissioned by the Equality and Human Rights Commission, found that less than 2 per cent of social housing tenants had arrived in the UK within the past five years, while the proportion of those born abroad living in social housing was almost identical to the proportion of social tenants born in the UK.
