A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

New Waste Charges a Disgrace' say Lib Dems.

Rochdale MP Paul Rowen has hit out at that the decision to increase waste charges across Greater Manchester as a disgrace. Paul was commenting after it was confirmed that waste charges for small businesses are going up. In a letter to businesses, staff at tips said, "From June 15th 2009 a change will be introduced at this and all our facilities at which trade waste is accepted. This will mean that you will be charged a minimum price for half a tonne of waste even if your load weighs less."

Breathe Easy

As usual on election days I did a spot of telling at the local polling station in Childs Hill. Telling is the job of collecting polling numbers from the voters .The number of people voting slowed to trickle during my stint. Unusually many of the voters stopped for a chat. Perhaps because this time the other two main parties did not have tellers on duty.
