A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

The Crime Capital of Shepway

Liberal Democrat campaigner Gary Fuller, who recently tackled a Shepway Council officer on the issue of visible policing, expressed his shock at discovering that, according to Kent Police's own figures, over 20% (1 in 5) of all crimes committed in Shepway occur in Harvey Central Ward, which has only one community police officer for over four-and-a-half-thousand people.

Rumours of changes to the 500 bus route which would end the service through Centre Drive in Epping have alarmed local residents who rely on the service to get from Ivy Chimneys and Centre Drive to Epping High Street, the hospital and the doctors. A petition calling on Arriva to maintain the service is to be submitted to the bus company.

Councillor Alan Taylor discusses Lib Dem policies with a local resident.

Talking Politics - Keeping your promises in Politics by Council Leader Alan Taylor.

The last few years have been hugely successful for the Liberal Democrats in Rochdale - gaining seats across the board and of course we have gained an excellent local MP in Paul Rowen. A lot of nonsense has been spoken by the Opposition, last year we had a myriad of excuses as to why the Conservatives and Labour abandoned their principles and joined together in a Coalition. That is history now and rightly so - the Liberal Democrats put together an exciting manifesto for this Borough and you are seeing us keep our promises.
