The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

MOVE TO UNPARK TRAIN STATION PARK 'N RIDE

Following commuter concerns expressed about the future of parking provision at Rochdale train station once the Metrolink works start in earnest during the autumn, the Council's chief on Development issues - Cllr Dale Mulgrew hosted a high level meeting on Monday (26th July) outside the train station with senior officials from Rochdale Council, Rochdale Development Agency and the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive.

Rowen puts minister on the spot over SAT chaos!

Rochdale MP and former teacher Paul Rowen has challenged School's Minister Ed Balls over the fiasco over SATS or Key Stage 3 tests. Mr Rowen challenged Mr Balls in a Westminster Hall debate. The debate centred on the shambles over marking. Mr Rowen spoke of 'serious concerns' over the standard of marking.

Brentwood Festival could showcase our town

Brentwood residents are, rightly, proud of their town and recent competitions, such as Brentwood's Got Talent, has shown a wide variety of skills that should be celebrated. So, Cllr David Kendall, Leader of the Liberal Democrat group, is calling for Brentwood to have its own town show to highlight what the community can offer.
