The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Conservatives snub residents on Keys Hall petition - UPDATE

Members of the Liberal Democrat group on Brentwood Borough Council have slammed the Conservative administration for snubbing the residents who signed the save Keys Hall petition. The 620 strong petition collected by the Lib Dems was on the agenda at June's Policy Committee but when it came to discussing the item the Conservatives said they simply "noted" it.

Farron challenges Prime Minister to postpone post office closures

Local MP Tim Farron has today issued a challenge to the new Prime Minister Gordon Brown to consider postponing the planned closure of thousands of local post offices until the Sustainable Communities Bill has come into effect. Mr Farron has been a leading campaigner for the Sustainable Communities Bill which would give local people the power to decide on the future of their local services.

Farron presses Minister further on care home abuse

Local MP, Tim Farron has today written to Health Minister Ivan Lewis about abuse in care homes. Last week, Mr Farron questioned the Minister during Health Questions, where Mr Lewis conceded that the situation was "shocking".
