A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Liberal Democrats unveil anti crime strategy

Youngsters who commit minor crimes or anti-social behaviour should not face prosecution in courts, under a new Liberal Democrat crime strategy. Custody for youngsters should be seen as a "last resort". Children who admit guilt would appear before panels of local people to apologise, with punishment in the form of a "positive behaviour order". Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman Chris Huhne said Labour "criminalised a generation of young people. It is time for a new approach to youth justice which both prevents crime and confronts young people with their actions if they do break the law."

Letter from Parliament - Paul Rowen MP

I recently carried out a survey of local residents' views and one of the things I asked them to list was the top three priorities/issues that concerned them. Unsurprisingly the top three issues were Crime, Health and the Environment. When I look at some of the issues I've been dealing with, either through meetings, my mail bag or in conversation with residents, I find the same issues cropping up.
