The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

How to policing protests in future

Liberal Democrats have noted with concern the more aggressive approach to protest recently adopted by the police, notably the treatment of demonstrators at Kingsnorth power station in Kent in August 2008 and at the G20 demonstrations in the City of London in April 2009; and the pre-emptive arrest of 114 environmental protesters in Nottinghamshire also in April 2009.

Bournemouth Lib Dem Conference - Tuesday Sept 22nd

Afghanistan: Pauline Jenkins, Lib Dem PPC for Newark, was interviewed at Conference by the British Forces Network asking he whether or not the UK should withdraw troops. Pauline said the UK has to have a very clear exit strategy agreed with the many nations which have troops in Afghanistan now.
