Government Cannot keep ignoring the problems in Social Care
Commenting on today's Commission for Social Care Inspection report into the state of social care in England 2005/06, Liberal Democrat Health Spokesperson, Sandra Gidley MP said:
The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? The Association of Chief Police Officers yesterday said British criminals may have been cleared to work with vulnerable people in the UK after committing crimes abroad. The Home Secretary John Reid has confirmed today that details of 540 serious criminals were left in files, and only 260 have now been entered on the Police National Computer (PNC). Police say some may have been cleared to work with the vulnerable in the UK.
Responding to Jonathon Porritt's attack on Tony Blair for a "complete failure to lead" on climate change, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said:
Liberal Democrats at North Yorkshire County Council have welcomed the news that Liberal Democrat councils are leading the way in protecting our environment.
Like all Liberal Democrats, I am appalled at the increasingly authoritarian drift of the Labour Party. Michael Howard and the Tories don't have a good track record on this issue either.
