The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

Lib Dem Leadership hopeful Sir Menzies Campbell QC MP met Robin Lawrence to discuss aspects of the Park Ward campaign. Sir Menzies (or Ming as he is usually called) studied a recent Focus and told Robin that his style of campaigning for local people about local issues is a corner stone of the Liberal Democrats' philosophy.
Dundee Liberal Democrat City Councillor Helen Dick has today (Sunday 19th February) pledged her support to the "Are we taking the Dis?" campaign.
Springvale's Liberal Democrat Focus Team organised a Rubbish Action Zone in the ward. Householders had an opportunity to get rid of their bulk rubbish which normal collections can not remove. At the end of the Action Zone on 18th February, which was for lower Woodcross and Deepfields, they had also cleared the fly-tipped rubbish in the lane between Fieldhouse Road and Wolverhampton Road East.
This weekend the Epsom & Ewell Liberal Democrats have announced that Julie Morris will be their candidate for the Town ward by-election. The date of this by-election is not yet known, but is expected to be in late March. Lindsey Fisk, the retiring councillor, said: "I'd like to introduce our excellent candidate to you: Julie Morris was a councillor for nearly six years until she lost her seat by three votes in 2003. She is an experienced campaigner and utterly dedicated to the needs of local residents and to the well-being of our borough.Town ward will do no better than to elect Julie to serve alongside my colleagues Colin Taylor and Charles Wood."
Speaking today (Saturday 18th February 2006), Cllr Fraser Macpherson, Convener of Finance on Dundee City Council, renewed Dundee Liberal Democrats' concerns about the Child Support Agency and the lack of an effective response by Tony Blair's Labour Government.
A Campaign, launched by Councillor Mark Farmer, called Safer Routes, has been hailed a major success, as the number of recorded violent Crime instances in the City Centre falls massively.
