The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

New Liberal Democrat Team at County Hall

Following the County Council elections on 5th May, the Liberal Democrats on Surrey County Council re-elected Hazel Watson as Group Leader, with Ian Beardsmore as her deputy. Colin Taylor chairs the group and John Doran is treasurer.

A Winner for Harbour: Emily says "Thank You!"

Emily Sanger has thanked Harbour residents for their support in the Harbour ward by-election. Emily was elected as the new Town Councillor for Harbour with 54% of the vote. The by-election was called following the resignation of the sitting Folkestone Town Councillor.

Council Tax bills could rise by upto 50%

Latest research by the Local Government Chronicle has shown Council Tax could rise by 50% to compensate for post-revaluation shifts in Government grant. Local Liberal Democrat campaigner Lexi Lawrence said "Council Tax is unfair, should be abolished and replaced with a Local Income Tax which will be fairer way to tax people locally. Even if Council Tax is not abolished revaluation should be halted."
