A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

Stephen Robinson urges close monitoring of postal votes

West Chelmsford Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate Stephen Robinson says that a dramatic rise in the number of applications for postal votes has raised concerns about electoral fraud. He said, "A survey conducted by the Times found applications had increased by as much as five times in some marginal seats, compared with the 2001 election. Applications overall had almost trebled since 2001."

At Mike's adoption meeting Adrian Sanders said: "We Liberal Democrats prize freedom of the individual, underpinned by a safety net for the vulnerable in our society. We are defenders of public services, free at the point of use. We are internationalist in outlook - pro UN, pro-commonwealth and pro engagement with Europe. Our Liberal Background makes us wary of an over-mighty state and dedicated to civil liberties. We are enthusiasts for the green agenda and see ourselves as custodians, not exploiters, of the planet.
