A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

The Cat's Out of The Bag

Whilst all the attention was on the marathon Brent Cross planning meeting this week, it was events at the Business Management Overview and Scrutiny Committee that could have a much more profound impact.

Heather Kidd Say Our Young People Are Being Let Down By The System

Heather Kidd today called for young people to better treated. She said "No-one seems interested these days in looking after our young people. They are often criticised for the activities of the few and rarely given credit for the charity fund raising, the hard academic work or the good natured support they often give family and friends. On top of that they are frequently handed the short straw by their 'elders and betters' in power. Having 4 daughters ranging from 24 to 15 years old and having been a teacher over 30 years, I have seen this at first hand."

Mayor Dave Hodgson and the Liberal Democrats Welcome Start of Church Lane Development Works

Mayor Dave Hodgson will be at the Church Lane Neighbourhood Centre on Monday to mark the start of work on phase one of the redevelopment of the site. The developers Coplan Estates were appointed by the Borough Council in 2006, and local Liberal Democrat Ward Councillors from Goldington and Putnoe have pressed for the much-needed development to go ahead. Now phase one of the development, which will see a new food store and car parking at the site, is getting underway.
