The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Lib Dem Peer Lord Richard Holme Dies

Senior Liberal Democrat Lord Holme has died at the age of 71 after a long illness, it has been announced. The peer was the party's Northern Ireland spokesman in the 1990s and a close advisor to Sir Menzies Campbell, Paddy Ashdown and David Steel.

The 2nd Battalion, the Royal Gurkha Rifles, from Shornecliffe barracks, have today been granted the Freedom of Sandgate. The award was given after the regiment had marched through the town, accompanied by marching pipes and drums.

Cllr Claire Darke thanks Park Ward Voters

Cllr Claire Darke has thanked the voters of Park Ward for electing her as their City Councillor. Claire said "I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who supported me in our campaign. I intend to use my term in office to carry on the good work for our area. I will continue to campaign for kerb side recycling of plastics and cardboard as well road safety matters and footpath repairs which voters told me they have appreciated very much. Season Says Thank You!

New Sandgate Town Councillor Liberal Democrat Season Prater is saying "Thank You" to residents in Sandgate Valley ward where she was elected on Thursday 1st May with a huge 58% of the vote. The result saw Season becoming the first ever Lib Dem elected to Sandgate Council, with the Lib Dem vote rising 35% from 23% to 58% this time, on an increased turnout.

Thankyou, says Brian

Sadly Brian Paddick was defeated in his bid to become the first Liberal Democrat Mayor of London. While opinion polls in the LGBT communities showed his huge levels of support when it came to the "pink vote", ultimately the Conservative Boris Johnson won.
