The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first. 

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Council money safe

Councillor Greg Couzens, Rochdale Council Cabinet Member for Finance, sought to ease anxiety over the collapse of Icelandic banks and the precarious state of British banks and the potential repercussions for Rochdale Council. Councillor Couzens confirmed to the Council Chamber that the Council did not have any money invested with Icelandic banks.

Recycling Rates Doubled in Just TWO Years

Rochdale's recycling rates have more than doubled across the borough thanks to resident's efforts. In a Lib Dem Notice of Motion that was presented at the recent council meeting, it was revealed that recycling had shot up from 16.8% in 2006/2007 to its current rate of 35% in just two years.

Rochdale's serving Cabinet is looking into increasing the number of art and cultural exhibitions on display throughout the Borough. It follows a recent visit to the Link4Life Arts and Heritage Centre on Fishwick Street by Cabinet Members Irene Davidson and Keith Swift and local youth campaigner Andy Kelly.
