Save our green belt
The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.
We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice. Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Mental health spend 'must double'
The amount the government spends on mental health and learning disability services in NI should double within the next 20 years, a review has found. The Bamford Review, to report later, was set up to examine how services for people with mental illness or learning disabilities could be improved.

Kent Police lose out on merger costs
Kent Police have lost £52,000 of the money they spent preparing for the force mergers which abandoned in July. The mergers were opposed by the Liberal Democrats and the dropping of the merger plans welcomed. It has now been revealed that of the total £152,042 that Kent Police spent on preparing for the merger, only £100,000 will be refunded by the Government.
