A wrecking ball next to the words save our green belt

Save our green belt

The Government has doubled the housebuilding target for Stockport, weakened the protections on a third of our precious green belt, and is forcing the Council through Ministerial Directives and threats to adopt a Local Plan which will let developers target green belt first.

We oppose this government’s ‘developers charter’ and need your voice.  Do you agree with us that the green spaces that make our area special need to be preserved, and new housing should first be built on brownfield sites, after the infrastructure is provided with schools, improved transport, and GP places guaranteed? Help us send a message to Government and make Labour listen to local people.

Find our more about the local plan on our frequently asked questions page.

UK prisons are a shambles

Mark Oaten, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, has told Radio 4's Today programme that Britain's prison system is a shambles with suicides, widespread drug-taking and half of inmates re-offending on release; and that the problems of prisons had to be addressed if Britain was to get crime under control.

Accident and Emergency Unit at the Princess Royal - Tory betrayal !!

Serena Tierney has campaigned ever since it was first suggested that this unit might be closed or downgraded. Lib Dems believe that Mid Sussex needs a fully functional A & E unit at the PRH, not a low-grade injuries only unit. To be fair, before the election, the Tories were saying the same. Yet look at what they are saying now: "Why I agree PRH surgery switch was the right move". What sort of behaviour is this? One thing before the election, and then change of heart immediately after, when the electorate cannot sling him out. This is just the sort of behaviour that gets all politicians a bad name - and we deplore it. If he had any moral courage, he would resign for such a basic change of heart on an issue that was central to the election in Mid Sussex.
